My Yoga style is a blend of my yoga experience.  I first completed a 200 hour Vinyasa program and later attended a 200 hour Iyengar program.  Studying Ashtanga, Anusara, and Iyengar style yoga I choose to blend these styles together in my vinyasa yoga classes.  The precision of alignment mixed with the joy of experience.  What is Vinyasa?

We link a half Sun Salutation between sets of poses during the "work" phase of the class.  It can be done full or modified as shown in these pictures at the top of the page.

I have had the pleasure of studying with many yoga teachers.  My biggest influences have come from my teachers Jaye Martin (Anusara), Kino Macgregor (Ashtanga), and Jason Crandell (Vinyasa/Iyengar). I study weekly with my mentor Jaye Martin. Jaye taught me the joy of practice, Anusara alignment and a light hearted approach.  Kino taught me to never give up, to be strong, and to believe it is all possible.  Jason Crandell taught me to bring Iyengar alignment  into the vinyasa style and a clear and intelligent way to look at sequencing. Others teachers I have studied with in workshops and intensives include Todd Norian, Betsy Downing, Sean Corne, Katheryn Budig, Tim Feldmann, Dharma Mittra, Cyndi Lee, Natasha Rizopoulos, Aadil Palkhivala, Rodney Yee, Patrick Beach, Carling Harps, Dylan Werner, and Kerri Verna.  The pictures on this page are from my practice.  In classes I teach to the skill level of the student infront of me, so don't be intimidated by these photos these are the result of years of practice and do not necessary reflect what is offered in a mixed level yoga class.

My Pilates training is through Peak Pilates, a classical form of the method.  I believe in being a continual student and study closely with my mentor, Connie Borho weekly.  I am also certified through the Pilates Method Alliance and a registered Buff Bones instructor (pilates for osteoporosis).  I have studied Pilates for specific areas of focus including MS, Scoliosis, and pre/postnatal, and attended an Anatomy Trains workshop focus on fascia in relation to movement.  I had the pleasure of attending workshops with Lolita San Miguel who studied with Joseph Pilates himself and with Siri Dharma Galliano who studied with Romana.  I also trained with Vil Shaynurov, a Siberian circus performer who travel with the Moscow circus turned Pilates Instructor.  With Vil I got to experience the more acrobatic side of the method.  I have trained a wide spectrum of clients from older clients wishing to be able to get out of a chair with ease to Olympic athletes looking to cross-train.

I believe in verbal cueing and adjusting, allowing the student find their place in the pose and their bodies expression of the movement.  I have been injuries 3 times in my practice to the extend where I wondered if it would need a surgery or medical intervention  to heal.  All three injuries were from teachers adjusting me and forcing my body into a shape or depth of a pose.  Due to these experiences I believe in minimal adjustments and instead use verbal adjustments and 
educating the students on alignment so they can adjust their own body.

I have been a vegeaquarian for over 20 years.  This is my term for a vegetarian who on occasion eats fish.  I can say in my 40s I feel stronger than I did in my 20s.  I start my day with lemon water and my vitamins and play on my mat and with my equipment 6 days a week and walk my dog 2-3X a day.  I am inspired by the older women who come to my classes and still have amazing movement and strength in their seventies.  I look forward to seeing what I am capable as I age and enjoying what each stage of life has to offer.
